Blanket

I was very happy to be asked to participate in the ADC’s Virtual Reality exposition of 102 artists around the world, to celebrate the organization turning 102 years old. The exhibition challenges artists to collaborate with Artificial Intelligence in some way. I like the results from the program Midjourney, so that’s what I used. You can see that image below.

My final image

My process involved trying out different prompts until I liked what it gave me. This image was about my 20th prompt. I had this idea already, of a landscape inside of a woman’s blanket. It was interesting to me how the curves of the land were echoed in the curves of her body. I also liked the mystery of the shadowy face.

Many artists right now are figuring out how to use AI in our artwork in a way that feels genuine and still respects the hard work that went into everything that programs like Midjourney catalog to make its images. I think it’s important to keep asking questions about where these images are used. For now, I think it can be a tool to push ourselves as (human!) artists. I took a few stylistic graphic elements and took them to my own work, which still feels like mine.
